SARA is a volunteer lifeboat and inland search and rescue charity, with 7 lifeboat and rescue stations along the length of the River Severn.
Each year SARA is called out over 100 times.
Lifeboats and Water Rescue
Their 5 inshore lifeboats are tasked by HM Coastguard to incidents in and around the Severn Estuary including the tidal lengths of the rivers Wye and Usk.
They operate inland rescue boats and provide inland water rescue, usually supporting the police and other agencies.
SARA has 6 Flood Response teams, ready to assist with flooding emergencies throughout the country. These were most recently involved in the intensive River Severn flood relief work in February 2022
Land Search and Cliff Rescue
SARA Land Search Teams are often deployed on search and rescue operations, usually to search for missing persons in support of the police.
They also have a specialist Rope Rescue Team, with the ability to care for casualties on the cliff, and raise as well as lower them. They respond to rescues on the cliffs in the Lower Wye Valley and Symonds Yat and other areas of steep ground across the area.
English Braids supply SARA with high performance Dyneema winch lines for their land rescue as well as static and floating lines. For more information on our range of winchlines, static ropes and floating recue lines then please contact us.
